Is An Evaporative Cooler a Better Choice for Your Cooling?

warm-manAir conditioning is a necessity in our area, not a luxury. Homeowners are well-advised to take their air conditioning systems and the needs of those systems seriously. That’s why so many homeowners in our area work with us! We not only install and service air conditioning systems, but we also help homeowners to find the ideal air conditioners for their own personal needs and preferences. In many cases, this turns out to be the evaporative cooler.

If you’re not familiar with evaporative coolers, but you are ready to invest in a new AC,  then you need to pump the brakes a bit and familiarize yourself with all of your options. There are a lot of them out there,  but it’s well-worth your time to do the research. There are a lot of benefits to be had with an evaporative cooler. Just remember that,  like any other air conditioning service in Glendale, CA, you need to schedule your evaporative cooler installation with trained professionals. You’re here reading this, so you’re in the right place!

What Is an Evaporative Cooler?

An evaporative cooler is a whole-house cooling system, but it is not exactly like a central air conditioner. In fact, its differences are what make it so appealing to homeowners looking for alternative cooling systems. For starters, the evaporative cooler does not use a refrigerant cycle in order to remove heat from the air in the house. It relies on the evaporation of water to cool air down. If you’ve ever stepped out of the ocean on a hot summer day and felt a cooling sensation on your skin as air passed over it, then you are already familiar with the process!

How It Works

If there is no refrigerant to evaporate and remove heat from the air in the house, then how exactly do evaporative coolers cool things down in the home? It’s quite simple, really.

Water-soaked pads are held in the system, and a fan pulls air through these pads. The air is cooled down through the evaporative process, and is then distributed throughout the house. It really is just that simple. Why do homeowners choose to use evaporative coolers?

There are a few reasons, but a major one is energy efficiency. Clearly, central air conditioners are effective cooling systems. However, they also use a fair amount of electricity in order to facilitate the heat transfer process through the evaporation and condensing of refrigerant.

An evaporative cooler just runs a fan—that requires less electricity than a central AC does. This makes them quite affordable in their operation, and it also makes them a great choice for environnmnetally-minded homeowners.

Because there are fewer mechanical components to these systems than there are in central ACs, they are also more reliable. There is simply less that can break down on you! If you have any questions, be sure to give a member of our team a call.
